We are recruiting for a Greenhouse Manager to manage the acclimatisation and hardening of tissue culture plants under environmentally controlled conditions. Solid knowledge of plant culture, environmental control, and labour management of producing quality crop will be required.
Role & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the acclimatisation and hardening of tissue culture plants.
- Ensure optimum growth and health of plants through
- Chemical application and schedules, irrigation, lighting, fertilization, monitoring, and regulating greenhouse conditions.
- Produce quality plants to schedule according to the nursery production plan.
- Managing nucleus tunnels with mother stock and ensuring best growing practices is applied.
- Oversee pest and disease monitoring in nucleus tunnels, stay up to date with weekly husbandry tasks and timeous rejuvenation of mother stock material when needed.
- Collaborate with global nursery partners, to ensure best plant health and clean stock practices.
- Control costs and assist in annual budget planning.
- Motivate, develop, and direct Greenhouse Staff.
- Recording and maintaining accurate crop records, inventories, and data as needed.
- Keep current on all regulatory compliance requirements.
- Willing to work occasional weekends, holidays and periods of adverse weather to accommodate emergency needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture, plant science, biology, agronomy
- Experience managing a Greenhouse, or proven expertise in horticulture
- Experience acclimatising and hardening of tissue culture plants are preferred.
- MS Office Suit proficiency.
